FAQS

What’s on the Accounting CDs?

The CDs provide a program for each of the financial accounting and cost accounting subjects. Each program introduces the subject, gives definitions and worked examples. There are then tasks for the student to complete on screen. By entering the right answers in each of the designated cells the programs let the student know whether they are correct as they go along.
The answers to each of the tasks are given at the end of each program.

What’s on the AAT Foundation CD?

The subjects covered are:
Bookkeeping, ledgers, reconciliations, trial balance and journals, various forms used in accounting, introduction to accruals and prepayments, depreciation and bad debts, and the extended trial balance.

What’s on the AAT Intermediate CD?

The subjects covered are:
Financial accounting programs are accruals and prepayments, depreciation, stocks, bad debts, extended trial balance, sole traders profit and loss and balance sheets, partnerships profit and loss and balance sheets, accounting for changes in the partnership, incomplete records and fixed assets register.
The cost accounting programs are materials, labour and overheads, marginal costing, investment appraisal, job and process costing, cost bookkeeping and manufacturing accounts. There is also an introduction to ratio and VAT.

And what’s on the AAT Technician CD?
The financial accounting programs are the IAS balance sheet and income statement, group accounts, cash flows and ratios
The cost accounting programs are standard costs, budgets, marginal costing, absorption costing and activity based costing.

What are the AAT practice templates?

The purpose of the practice templates is to save the student’s time when they are working through, say textbook questions. So instead of writing out the templates, eg profit and loss account format, the student can use the blank ones supplied on the CD.

What are the AAT multiple choice questions?

The Intermediate package provides 100 financial accounting and 100 cost accounting questions, and the Technician package contains 100 questions mixed between financial accounting and cost accounting. They are designed to help the student speed up their response times in recognising the type of question and then entering their answer, from a choice of four options. Their score out of 100 is shown after each question has been answered.

What about the taxation CDs?

The structure of the taxation CDs follows the same format, namely there is a program for each of the subjects, with worked examples and tasks to complete.
The subjects covered are:
Personal Taxation – Employment income, property income, investment income, self employment income, capital allowances, capital gains, national insurance and tax tables.
Business Taxation – Corporation tax, capital allowances, VAT, national insurance, capital gains tax, self employment and tax tables.

Accounting Book: Cost and Management Accounting by Roger Storey.

This book covers all the cost and management accounting topics in a concise, student-friendly style. It includes many topics generally ignored in similar textbooks, such as techniques for planning and control of non-manufacturing costs (eg selling and administration). It also provides a 'real world' view with walk-throughs of the major business functions.

The book includes over 200 past examination questions drawn from a wide variety of examining bodies with worked examples and full answers. There is a comprehensive glossary of terms and a full set of management accounts. A student described the book as “my best investment ever”.
